Bricycles members have complained to me about the glaring headlights and poor lighting on the cycle path from Falmer to Lewes, part of Route 90 . For long stretches, Route 90 is a two-way unsegregated pedestrian and cycle track next to the A27, a very fast road carrying heavy traffic. I commuted between Brighton and Lewes for several years. I was shocked at how blind you could be due to the glare of car headlights. I used a powerful front light on my bike, but this can be risky because motorists elsewhere have mistaken bright bike lights for those of a car or motorbike, and swerved into riders.  The glare issue is noted by Cycle Lewes at: www.cyclelewes.org.uk/issues/a27.html

It is a similar situation further east from Firle to Glynde.

It would be good if the Highways Agency to put some shielding in place to prevent the glare of car headlights. We have previously also campaigned for crash barriers. Widening of the track might be necessary.

The section of the track by Housedean Farm, east of Falmer, is unlit and also has a poor road surface.

The Brighton Bike Train ride on 5 November 2012 brought 200 cyclists along Route 90 to Lewes for the bonfire celebrations. This could be used as a bit of pressure for better facilities!
