Bricycles members have complained to me about the glaring headlights and poor lighting on the cycle path from Falmer to Lewes, part of Route 90 . For long stretches, Route 90 is a two-way unsegregated pedestrian and cycle track next to the A27, a very fast road carrying heavy traffic. I commuted between Brighton and Lewes for several years. I was shocked at how blind you could be due to the glare of car headlights. I used a…

This is wonderful news for road users. It is one of Bricycles’ long term campaign goals. Following agreement at the Transport Committee on November 27, Brighton and Hove City Council is introducing a 20 mph speed limit for the centre of Brighton and Hove from April 2013. Officers will proceed with advertising the formal Speed Limit Order for the changes in speed limit in the Phase 1 Area. For the background to the decision, see:…

Last week we had a ride to Combe Haven Valley, north of Bexhill. It is difficult to believe that a new road has been agreed at this location, estimated to bring 23,000 vehicles a day. Construction of the environmentally damaging Bexhill Hastings Link Road (an East Sussex County Council project) is planned for January 2013. Combe Haven Defenders are a new group dedicated to stopping the road. They are running a “Walk, Eat, Draw” event, meeting at Crowhurst Station at 11am on Saturday 24…

Bricycles has conducted a survey of the Police and Crime Commissioner candidates for Sussex.
We asked a dozen transport-related questions. Four out of the five Sussex candidates replied, which is a good response. We have collated the results in a downloadable Excel spread sheet. See the link to our survey at the top of the "Letters and responses" page at:…

We can now legally cycle though many streets in North Laine which were previously one-way! Traffic orders exempt cyclists from one way restrictions in Trafalgar Street, Gloucester Road, Gloucester Street, Vine Street, Robert Street, Kensington Street, Church Street, Foundry Street, Kemp Street, Kensington Place, Over Street, Queen’s Gardens, and Tidy Street. New cycling signs and road markings are…

I've written to Southern Railway objecting to the new cycle policy being implemented at Brighton station.
Southern Railway is requiring cyclists to fold and carry folding bikes as part of their new cycle policy: http://www.southernrailway.com/your-journey/cycle-policy/ The new policy says: “Fully folding cycles are welcome on our train at any time and we ask that these are fully folded and carried before…
